This was too important to remain buried among 33 comments over on Mendon Commentary.
”Let me be brief, how can a former selectman, Dennis, ride around town with an expired inspection sticker for months and park right at the town hall, right in front of the police station and have the police do nothing about it??? I know plenty of people whom have been stopped in Mendon and been fined for that. But I guess being a former selectman, one can get away with those things, oh did I mention that he's also on the public safety building committee. I guess that puts you above the law. Look beyond the town of Mendon and you will realize something is very wrong with this town...” Posted by Anonymous:

For the same reason he can get caught hunting on a neighbor's property without the annual written permission as required and not get arrested.
Just one of the good old boys is right. Do we want to perpetuate this by re-electing this man who so obviously feels that he can do as he chooses with no repercussions? He certainly has a personal agenda in running again for selectman, and it isn't because he wants the best for the town.
His arrogance is palpable!
And Mr. Breen...close friend of the Tinio's. Can we expect him to fare any better? This is just as bad as having to choose Bush or Kerry.
I beg to differ. There's no contest. ANYONE is better than Dennis Shaheen again.
"I beg to differ. There's no contest. ANYONE is better than Dennis Shaheen again."
We would agree. We are not aware that Breen and Tinio are anything more than fellow Finance Committee members.
Shaheen never served on anything before runnung for selectman. He has no idea what goes into public finance.
HG
We also don't need another empty chair. That would leave Sharon Cutler (slated to be the next chair) in COMPLETE control. That is just a nightmare waiting to happen. Everyone in town government, hold on to your paperclips!
And to the rest of the town, hold on to your pocketbooks!
Not sure what relevance, if any, but Damon Tinio's wife and Breens's wife are friends and one would guess it goes beyond that. More importantly this would have 2 seats each with less than a year's experience. Not saying this is preferable to someone with a negative track record, just something to think about. As well, 2 possibly coordinated seats with the ability to sway an issue one way or the other???
As opposed to what?!? Isn't that business as usual in Mendon? people with power swaying issues one way or another to suit their purposes?!? Just look at what happened to the former fire department and the purchase of the poisoned Fino property. Shaheen was the impetus behind both of those debacles. No thanks, been there done that! I'm all for any new blood coming onto the Board whether wives are friendly or not. You will be hard-pressed in a town as small as Mendon not to find people who have social connections in one way or another. Again I say, ANYONE is better than Shaheen. He's only running to finish the job with the Fino property. He has a vested interest in that and it hasn't moved along quickly enough for him. His partner in crime, Ken O'Brien, got a little distracted with his own personal legacy of adopting Waveland Mississippi and dropped the ball on that one.
Don't kid yourself. My guess is the reason Ken is out of the seat is the strong possibility of an ethics investigation over the Fino land. He has too much to lose.
Shaheen on the other hand is far too arrogent to think that it would ever happen to him. He's a slow learner.
An ethics violation against O'Brian has been eluded to on both Mendon blogs, but no one will elaborate on it. What have the rest of us missed? Care to share?
Hey Mendon if we vote for David Breen, don't forget the Tinio/ Cataldo connection. So let me get this straight we'll have David Breen (business owner), Vincent Cataldo (business owner/water board)Claudia Cataldo (business owner/Town Accountant)Lawney Tinio (business owner/selectmen)and Oh! lets not forget the personal connection between Lawny and the Cataldo's. BUSINESS as usual anyone? Yes it's definately like trying to decide between Kerry and Bush.
It's funny/odd that all the talk here is of connections and how they might affect a sitting selectman.
Mendon had a selectmen that was connected to nobody that I could see and voted him out after one term. Now, it seems from reading this that a lack of inside connections matters. Go figure.
The fact people are businessmen is not enough reason for me to preclude them.
Intelligence, ethics, and leadership ability are important to me.
(That is why I voted for someone other than Bush or Kerry who both fail on at least two of these. Only mentioning this because you always have several other choices in the electoral presidential race.)
We can either complain anyone is better than Shaheen or we can vote for the devil we know. The bottom line is noone else chose to run so we have to live with these choices.
(Unlike a presidential race where you have to be rich.)
One more point, enough with the O'Brien ethics thing unless you present some facts.
Dennis is not a slow learner he's just stupid. Slow learners will eventually get it...stupid is as stupid does...
Riff Raff said earlier that "intelligence, ethics, and leadership ability are important to me" in choosing the next selectman. Then your choice is clear............not Shaheen.
Well if I was not worried about the IQ, ethics or leadership you are right on shaheen is the guy, but i will say again "stupid is as stupid does." I guess that goes for all the select-morons. One more question...Do you think breen will be able to change the course of things to come???
The Tinio, Cataldo connnection cited above is what is behind Cataldo's push for that $2,000,000 town well off Providence. Let's hope breen doesn't jump on that bandwagon.
