The MDN Pimps for Mendon Selectmen!

New Comments as of 5/17

We predicted that the spin would continue until the election and the local print rag came in right on schedule.

If you are a regular reader of this blog don't miss the front-page puff piece written in the Milford Daily News today by one of their premier lap dog reporters, Danielle Williamson. Yes, the powers that be at the old local rag are pimping for their favorite causes again. Higher taxes and bigger government any cost.

Danielle goes on for 765 words about the dire situation with Mendon’s public safety infrastructure. She lies, twists, spins and uses all the scare words. She relies on quotes from only one side of the issue as if no other side exists.

It is not until the article is 600 words into the selectmen’s gospel that there is even a mention of the real environmental cost concerns voters had about the project at Wednesday’s town meeting. Then 96 words are devoted to a careful weaving of outright lies by the Milford Daily News and quotes from Joe Reed a Public Safety Building Committee member and close friend of Sharon Cutler. We can guess that Joe was taken out of context allowing the paper to slip in its BS.

Read the article and if you see what we see. Tell your friends. This bold attempt to snow the voters should not stand. Vote NO on Monday and tell the selectmen to do this the right way.

The very first line of the story is a lie. The State never ordered the fire fighters out of their building. The report said: Fix the problems.

Ummm Where did the 1.3 million dollar cost for environmental cleanup (already built into the $7.5 million dollar total cost) come from? Wednesday it was 10K - 300K. What a convenient mistake 1 day before the vote goes to the ballot. Unbelievable. Anybody that votes yes for this building under the circumstances is going to sorry.

Anonymous said...

Incredible that the $1.3 million cost for cleanup supposedly ALREADY built in to the total cost was not disclosed as such to the public during the "informational hearing". Does this mean that the powers that be DID recognize that this site had significant environmental issues?? Does this mean that if they chose to locate the facility on another parcel of town-owned land, that the actual cost of the facility would be only $6.2 million to the taxpayers??

Until all of the questions raised on these blogs are answered, people would be foolish to approve such a project with so many potential costly problems. The back-pedalling and over-simplistic statements and explanations made by proponents lead me to believe that they don't think that voters are intelligent enough to look at all the factors and make up their own minds. Just believe what they tell you and it will be sunshine and lollipops in the town of Mendon.

Someone posting on the blogs uses the moniker "Village Idiot". Apparently the powers that be think we are ALL village idiots if we fall for this!

Anonymous said...

Couldn't we find a more suitable 3 acre lot for under 1.3 million?
This ever-evolving project is amazing.

Anonymous said...

We are all the Village Idiots, as we won't take their pat answers to our questions! I am proud to be someone who is willing to find out the whole story!!!

Be wary of the Tinio/Breen duo......many on this blog have expressed concerns over Dennis Shaheen, but these two are in it together to build, build, build. Mark my anonymous words.

Anonymous said...

Yes, that is really something to be ascared of. Especially since Cutler will go along with them.
But Breen is a smart guy and who knows, if the voice of the people is heard loud enough, he might listen.

Anonymous said...

With Gilchrist as Water Commissioner and previous experience as such, Breen & Tinio as Selectmen we need to keep a close eye on future town meetings. Does anyone know if Damon Tinio was elected to the Planning Board? This would be a little too much for my comfort.

Anonymous said...

Yes Damon Tinio is on the Planning Board for 5 years.

Anonymous said...

Who is to blame for that? No one ran against him. We are easy pickin's for developers and those who profit from development to infiltrate our town boards. We dam sure better keep an eye on town meetings.

Anonymous said...

If recent voting events will make people more likely "too keep an eye" on their elected officials then good.

Maybe out of the "watchers" we will get some people willing to take the ball and run with it next time.

Anonymous said...

Toooo bad... I was looking forward to the "Horne Safety Building" ribbon cutting ceramony.

Anonymous said...

Any one know what Gilchrists agenda is? I have heard 2 very different possiblities. 1. That he is setting the groundwork for a future paying job.(his track record indicates he may have trouble keeping one) or 2. and hopefully this is the right one. he will be less likely to be threatened by Cataldos bullying.
I believe Jay Washburn is right. Cataldo and Tinio are using the current water users as pawns to get public water AND Sewer on Rt. 16.

Anonymous said...

I hate to burst your bubble but Gilchrist, Tinio and Cataldo are all in the same boat rowing together.

Expect at least a $20 million dollar bond issues to come to a vote within 2 years.

Keep your eye on who supports the exploratory stage of this monster.

Anonymous said...

That Gilchrist has trouble keeping a job is true. He is described by some who knoiw him as "moody" and
having difficulty getting along with people. He could be looking to have a DPW.
Does anyone think the people presently on public water are being used as pawns is because Tinio and Cataldo know that it is their only chance to get public water and sewer on Rte. 16?
Any ideas on how to stop it?

Anonymous said...

Can anyone explain the connection of Tinio and Cataldo to public water and sewer on Rte. 16 for those of us who aren't in the know? It has been mentioned several times, but I'm not sure why.

Anonymous said...

The perceived connection is the fact that Tinio and Cataldo are developers and may somehow gain from a water sewer project in town.

Neither of them own property in the affected area. The Tinio thing is a father/son relationship. The selectman Tinio is not in the development business. He is in the computer business.

Is that a conflict of interest? Not if people are paying attention. It would be in the best interest of the town to have local developers with good track records participate in any major local project. Both Tinio and Cataldo have excellent business reputations.

The real question is this. What level of development if any would be a plus or minus for the quality of life in Mendon? Any sewer/water project would most certainly come with a spike in development. Development cuts both ways.

Anonymous said...

One connection is that Cataldo is on the water board and he and Tinio are pushing for public water on 16. This might or might not be a good thing but shouldn't this be a separate issue that is subject to public debate? Does anyone think they trying to avoid this debate by pretending expansion of the present system half way through town is the only way the 140 people can keep public water?
Guaranteed the next step is to Rt 16. Guaranteed growth and development. How could this not effect quality of life in Mendon? Can anyone explain why we would want this?

Anonymous said...

Public water by itself is bad enough. It makes it possible for 40B projects to be more densely populated than without. When most people think public water they are really thinking public water AND sewer. This is where it gets real scary. All those in favor of having a sewage treatment plant in thier back yard raise thier hand. That's the least of the concerns. As to who the driving force is behind the push for expansion? The answer is a business on Rt. 16. with a failing septic system. Just follow your nose on a warm Sat. night.

The story about the water is a bit more complex than getting water to 16. Cataldo and Tinio may be in the same boat but they are in it for different reasons. Prior to Jan of 2005, the majority of the water comm,Cataldo and Watson, were in complete agreement that a town well was far to costly to be a viable solution to the water issue. Enter Abe Rosenfeld who wants to build a 40B, Grist Mill, off Rt 140. Rumor has it that when Abe found out the water comm was leaning toward private wells he called Cataldo and read him the riot act.You see Cataldo paving does subcontract work for Abe R. thus there is a money link between the two. Also, the Watson family has close personal ties to that of Abe R. To make a long story short when Abe went to the water comm meeting with his lawyer in Jan 2005 and said he would sue the town if he did not get town water for Grist Mill, Cataldo and Watson did a 180 and have been pushing the well ever since. Obviously there are greater plans since they are looking for a well with a MINIMUM capacity triple the average daily usage of the water system. Even with Grist Mill in the mix this well would far exceed what is needed. This could simply be a quid pro quo between Cataldo and Tinio. A pipe from where they want the well to Rt 16 would be shorter than that from the well to the water users. It would be no big deal to put in once a well was dug. To stop it simply give them no more town money to find a well site and create a proposal. They are down to about $7,000 which is not enough to do the job properly. By the way, if your house happens to be on a street that they are planning to run the water pipe down than you are in for a surprise. Even if you are not on the water system they are planning on charging a betterment fee to all homes along the way of the pipe or pipes. So far they have planned it so the route the pipe takes is the most populated rather than the shortest. Get the picture?
