Annual Town Meeting Tonight

New Comments as of 5/13

This is where all your money gets spent. If you can possibly be there to protect your investment in the town you live in, do it!

Your attendance tonight may save you hundreds of dollars over the coming year.

There is not much left of our Republic. Town meeting is one of the few remaining ways to have a direct affect on the system that governs you.

See you there!

Art Holmes must go. Meeting was a travesty. How do you get people to attend a meeting that is twice as long as it needs to be because of his ineptness?

What happened last night?

We thought we would let others comment on the meeting before we did. Our guess is that not too many people attended.

We will comment tomorrow but in the meantime if anyone has am opinion lets hear it.

I heard that Judy Leonelli's husband was abusive and aggessive towards another town citizen who didn't share his view. What's up with that?

I heard Ernie asked for and got (big surprise) another $80,000 What was this chunck of change for? He has the police and fire dept. budgets to go over next Friday at Special Town Meeting (again big surprise) Has anyone looked at that warrant? It goes on for miles as do the $$$ signs. When is enough enough? Many complain that the schools should learn to live within a budget, yet Horn just keeps going back to the well and the town just keeps saying "yes". I don't remember the former Fire Chief coming before the town every three or four months for more money. Does anyone else? Just curious.

There were 34 articles that seemed like 100 with Art Holmes running the show. He admits to being hearing impaired then during voice votes that seemed fairly close he decides the outcome, how? Even on a couple of hand counts he ruled one way or the other when we couldn't tell looking at the hands who won. Lastly article 34 hand count was close and several people asked for an official count and he must have turned down the hearing aid because none was given. What is going on with this town?

Mr. Holmes let Article 34 get out of hand. The motion was for a zoning issue and not about historic preservation. Kevin Rudden's claim that it was a cheap end run around a lawsuit neglected to point out that the lawsuit was a cheap end run around a ZBA approval that was discussed to death. The Lowells actually claim in their suit that the Bank will harm their Antiques bussiness which is located next to the blue roof of extra mart and is open sporadically at best. Who's zooming who? At least the bank would add revenue to the town. The lack of funds in this town seems to be what everyone was whining about all night. What gives?

Sorry guys. You had your chance last Monday and voted Art in for another term as moderator. Good luck.

Imagine living in a town where your neighbors could suppress your property rights and value because they liked the way your house looked? It's happening, right here in sleepy, happy hollow. The leonellys seem to have played by the rules and got their approvals. I am wondering how someone could have the balls to say that they should not be allowed to do what they want if they are playing by the rules.

Preserving Century 21 is supported by an idea to preserve the village appeal of the Mendon Center. I think it was just a direct attack on a family that has paid their mortgage and hasn't agreed with the Old Regime of Mendon. Did you hear O'Brien or Culter once critize the tear down of one of the Town's first school houses in the compound of red homes across from the Fire Station? No, you did not. Look at who the contractor is and look whole is selling it. That will tell you why no one on the BOS complained about those lost treasures. Treasures with actual timbers as floor joists. What a shame! Don't be fooled with the new election results. The Old regime is not dead yet. They are close, barely breathing, but not dead yet. I would have thought a smart guy like Kevin Rudden would have been all over this tear down and new construction seeing how hot he was to preserve the little ole hill top community!

Be ascared as Saheen says. If they can mess with one persons property rights they can play with yours.

The hilltop village doesn't much matter if you want to place a brand new monstrosity of a dual Police/Fire facility at the crest of the hill either. Do you remember the argument that the bank would introduce too much of a traffic problem to that already busy intersection, but traffic was a non-issue to the BOS when it came to the emergency vehicles entering and exiting at peak periods through there? Interesting.

Underlying message in all of this is everyonoe is operating with their own self-serving agenda. The vote last Monday indicated that the people at least now are trying to take back the agenda. Perhaps if enough are aware and involved, they can get it right.

I like the double standard pointed out with wanting to preserve the Hill Top Community only to see the 7.2 million dollar public safety building from 495!! Good assessment anonymous made at 6:38!

I thought the intelligence of Shaheen was best displayed by his filler words, "Ya Know". He says "ascared" too. Priceless!

As to the confrontation.......Nick Leonelli allegedly put his face in John Trainors (Mendon Historical Commission)and tried to start a fight.

The ONLY public officials to really take a stand to oppose the demolition of the Century 21 building were Don Keller and Ken O'Brien. Sharon Cutler is Judy's lapdog and abused her position as a representative of the citizens to push Leonelli's agenda. At the town meeting, however, the citizens SPOKE, and Judy and Medway Coop ought to listen. BTW, as far as the Leonelli's being law-abiding, I don't consider an individual who verbally assaults another citizen, (and refuses to let them leave by physically blocking their way), a law abiding citizen. This is not the first time this behavior has occured either. Better rein your husband in, Judy, before, he gets you both in hot water.

And talk to me about the stacked traffic count for the 1 Hastings Street property -- the Rt. 16 counter was across the street at Milford National Bank and the second counter was down at St. Michael's.

So not one car traveling to Clough from the South end of town got counted. Twist the facts to suit your needs.

It's the mendon way.

Oh for the cripey sakes! Nick Leonelli is not a threatening guy and John Trainor can take care of himself. I wonder how you would respond to someone trying to control your personal property. Tainor and his daughter lied to the Leonellis when they formed the historic district when they told them in writing that there would be no restrictions, whatsover, on thier property. Anyone in Real Estate would not have agreed to be in the district if that were not assured. Now they are trying to stop the Leonellis from developing their land. The Historic Commission had not met in years nor have they done anything in those years but they sure sprung to life when the Leonellis could not use the building for the bank. Mr. Trainor refuses to turn in to the town minutes from their most recent meetings and so is breaking the state's open meeting laws. That was the subject of the conversation between Mr. Trainor and Mr. Leonelli. The Historical Commission is stonewalling the Leonelli's ability to swiftly have their case dismissed which any sane person can see it will be based on Mr. Lowell's "personal agreivement". Give us all a break with this.

Don't know where you were at the town meeting when the historic district was discussed but I clearly recall the historical commission say that there would be no restrictions EXCEPT in cases in which federal or state permitting was involved. Guess you weren't listening. I paid close attention since my house is also involved. I also read the letter we were all sent (which was provided by the state, not the local commission) in which the information is clearly laid out in black and white. Guess you didn't bother to read that. And there are NO excuses for someone to thrust their face inches from yours, call you derogatory names, and taunt you to "Go ahead and hit me". This is verbatim, folks. Something tells me Leonelli's aggressive behavior indicates he's not so sure that the this case will be viewed by impartial officials (outside of this town) as frivolous.

Dear "cripey sakes": It is apparent as to who you are--you didn't attend Commission meetings for years, but you are the first to show up for a photo opportunity. It is hysterical. As a former member, the Commission met every month under Alan though, admittedly, les so under John for a myraid of reasons.

To accuse very fine fellow community citizens of such behaviors is shameful, but accounts for your history of practices. John Trainor and his daughter are NOT liars. Lying, however, has occurred when the bank president implied that he reached out to anyone on the committee, that he explored saving the facility, and on and on.

Grow up and ethics up....it would help YOU and the community.

Ms. Cutler had my previous vote. She will never secure mine, my spouse's nor my neighbors.

At some point, community and doing the right thing has been lost--and self-defense tactics has become her mode of operating. Perhaps she can refocus herself and regain the reason for her initial foray into an attempt to lead. To date, there is nothing but anger and defense as her tactic for leadership. Let us all hope that she resigns or restablizes herself and moves forward to be community focused.
By the way, we are not a poisoned community, but we have some foolishly spiteful and poisoning leadership practices.

Couldn't agree with you more!

The traffic study was a joke! The idiot(hired by ZBA) that did it stated that there was no difference between the traffic now and what was expected at the bank. C21 does very little business (no real estate company is these days)however much they do, the traffic count will be at least the same and I am sure Judy hopes it will be more for her office alone. The Bank could not survive if they do not have many times as many cars driving using their facility.
