More Land Shenagians???

New Comments 6/08

As reported in the MDN 6/1/06.

"Selectmen also announced preparation to sell the 15 Millville Road lot, pending an approved septic design.
Tinio said the town needed to be sure to set a minimum price before making the property open to any bids. "I don't want to give the property away," said Tinio."

Will someone tell Tinio that the town cannot sell land without a town meeting vote. That's Government 101 Lawney.

Also while we are at it, where the hell is the money coming from for a septic design? Anyone remember voting for that?

Obviously the selectmen have learned nothing from recent history and still feel that they are the "because wesayso board". Message to the Troika: It's our land and our money and most important of all, you work for us. Get it?

Questions for the selectmen: Why the pressing need to sell a building lot? Do we need more development? Where will the money go?

Given the track record of real estate dealings by the selectmen we suspect something is going on here.

It does not make sense to me to sell any land that we may have a use for as a town. The question is... is there a use? I notice what seems to be a shortage of parking for memorial field. I know its a little walk but maybe it's a possible use.

How about a non-contaminated site for a public "safety" building" ?? Now there's an idea!

Any town-owned land next to existing town-owned land (in this case, the "conservation land" bought to protect Lake Nipmuc from a subdivision's possible pollution) SHOULD NOT be sold. It should be kept to preserve the integrity of or expand the existing land.

The Millville Street lot could be used for additional ball field parking.

The town should also acquire "first rights of refusal" on properties next to the town beach so that we have the potential to expand it as the town grows.

I've noticed that Cutler and Tinio are very eager to sell this lot. Makes you wonder whose families will be working on the house to be built there, doesn't it?

Kevin we agree with you. There is no real reason to sell the Millville Road lot. The tax impact would be negative and the price in a down real estate market would not add that much to the town coffers. It borders town parkland, so why the rush to sell?

This board of selectmen seems to be obsessed with real estate development.

Perhaps the foxes are in the hen house. Tinio = Development Family. Cutler = 2 sons in real estate development.

If it walks like a duck…..

Kevin and Hanging Gardens, I couldn't agree with you more about the development connection. When I heard this I wondered if Lawney and Damon Tinio's father was the one who wanted to buy the land.

This is not a desireable lot. In the past it would not perc and may still not perc. Matty Fino nest door had to put his septic system hundreds of feet to the rear which I do not think is an option here. No one is going to risk a conflict of interest charge for such a poor piece of property. The parking option will and should prevail regardless of whether it is buildable or not.

My guess is that Fino is the buyer. He would not want anything happening next to HIS house.

One of Cutler's sons is plumber and the other does renovations not new construction. How does this equal developers. You people need to stop with the rediculous assumptions and come back to the real world.

You mean the son who was named assistant plumbing inspector Sharon's first year on the board?

I also agree with Kevin and HG. We should not sell the lot.

RE: "You people need to stop with the ridiculous assumptions and come back to the real world."

Mendon's history is full of politics similar to those mentioned here....it is you who needs to "come back to the real world". How is it do you suppose that Mendon spent millions on a contaminated Fino property and tried to build a "public safety building" on it w/o divulging the fact that it was polluted to the voters? WAKE UP!

So we are to ignore that one Tinio is on the planning board, the other a selectman and the father a developer? You've got to be kidding me.

It is you who needs to "come back to the real world." Mendon's history is full of politics as such. How is it do you suppose that Mendon spent millions on a contaminated Fino property and then tried to build a "public safety building" on it w/o making the test results known to the town? I suppose it was an oversight??

Are we supposed to ignore that one Tinio is a selectman, one on the planning board and the other a developer? You've got to be kidding me.

People connected to development are on our town boards because no one runs against them.

Then isn't it up to everyone else to keep them in check?

One question -- how is it that the Selectmen determine what's executive session and we cannot dispute it because it's executive session? What if the material being discussed is not of a job-performance issue or some type of negotiation? Who is the watchdog to make sure the BOS isn't just using Executive Session to hide things?

I.e., who do we call to evaluate the use of Executive Session? I am just concerned because of the number of executive sessions lately -- something is up, and I don't trust the BOS. Guess I'm still searching for an honest man.....

I have some of last years minutes of executive session if your interested.

eric, who did you call to get them and why were they given out?

My Mother in Law requested them and after a long delay the BOS released them to the public last week. I only have some of 2005 but it is pretty good stuff if your into the politics of Mendon. Linda has also requested 2001-2004.Call the BOS secretary and I'll bet she'll make you some copies.
