Milford's own Marie Parente made Section A-15 of the San Francisco Chronicle today. Marie's strong stance against illegal immigration got her noticed on the Left Coast.

Illegal aliens are the biggest threat that we have to face in this country. No one gets my vote unless they vow to do something about it. I wasn't going to vote for Parente but if I don't hear the other two pony up then they lose. Of course,then they actually have to DO something!

As usual Marie is pandering to a constiuancy who don't want to see Milford change. The reality is that immigration is a problem as long as the immigrants in this area can't obtain citizenship. All this talk that the immigrants are the "biggest problem" sets up an atmosphere where the immigrants may be abused by those who are uninformed. All people need to be treated humanely and with respect. Milford is a city of immigrants and there was a day when the Italians and Portugese where also looked upon with scorn. Until the immigrants came to Milford the downtown was deserted. Why can't Marie focus on ways to incorporate the immigrants into our society? Because she is running for office (sigh, again)! She never met a Pander she didn't like. Marie better watch hereself. The business owners who depend on all of the immigrants, legal and illegal will be voting too? Use your head Marie.

Illegal aliens have no rights. They are here illegally. They are breaking the law, using valuable resources, not paying taxes, sending their money to their home countries, bringing in more and different virulent forms of disease, taking jobs from US citizens etc, etc.
There are 10s of thousands of people patiently working their way through the immigration process. To allow illegals any advantage over those who are following the rules is unthinkable.
Round them up, ship them back.

They are putting a huge drain on our medical system. We pay for it by ever increasing medical insurance. If they want to stay let them become legal and pay taxes and medical. Until then we all pay for them and thier families. I don't have a problem with people coming to this counrty looking for a better life, that is what we are built on. However when they get free education, and I have to pay for my children, they get free medical, and I have to pay for insuarance. I have to get a drivers license and they drive without one and nothing happens to them if they get caught. Yes, I do think somethings wrong!

This is the type of legislation that I have no issues with when dealing with illegal immigrants.
This may very will be a diversionary topic but that does not make it any less valid as an issue that must be dealt with.

I love how this country is being slowly bankrupted, and very few people care...Social Security would not be in jeopardy if ONLY people who have contributed to Social Security were eligible to receive it....Unfortunalty, if you ILLEGALLY move here, and are 62 years or older, you sign up and start getting your check...
SS would still be a problem. Some people put in and never take out anything. The amount of Baby Boomers retiring and lack of leadership by our government have a more negative impact on SS then illegal immigrants do.
See you are still missing the point. SS is not in as bad a shape as the Republicans who tried to hijack it said it was. It too was another diversionary tactic. Keep your eye on the ball. Social Security IS in trouble if nothing is done. It has nothing to do with what political party you favor...its simply how the numbers work out. People are living longer thus receiving more years of payments, there are fewer workers to support each retiree, and the SS surplus funds that shouldve been set aside instead were used to fund more federal spending and replaced with IOU's. Something definitely needs to change in regards to Social Security. The big debate will be about the form of the changes.

first of all, i don't care if LEGAL immigrants are living and working here. if they are illegal they should be shipped back to where they came from. as far as social security goes, the majority is being eaten up by illegal aliens and young people who don't want to work anymore and hire one of those lawyers on TV to get them on social security disablity.they also get mass health, paying for their pain prescriptions which they sell for up to $10/pill. they also get food stamps. i don't have prescrition insurance and i pay $64 for 1 prescription. when i was at cxs the other day a seemigly very young and healthy woman was picking up her prescrition in front of me. the cashier said, this is covered by mass health, you have a 50 cent co-pay. the woman then said she didn't have the 50 cents. the cashier said ok and gave her the prescription. i was next in line and paid my $64 and as i was leaving the store i saw the girl buying a pack of cigarettes. when i got home i researched the mass health system and if the recipient does not nave the copayment the pharmacy is obligated to give them the prescription. now you tell me what is wrong with the system. i work full time and have to pay through the nose for everything but if i had no conscience and went on ssd i could get everything for practically nothing. i'm sure some people honestly qualify for ssd. its all the lazy people and illegal aliens who are depleting our ss system.

For those of you who think that disease transmission is not a threat of unrestricted emigration let me offer the following... Wait till the first case of human transmittable Bird Flu hits the states.

In case you don't here are the facts. The virus is located primarily in the migratory flyways of southeast asia. Wild birds are the carriers, who intermingle with domesticated birds and pass the virus interspecies.
There are roughly 37-40 mutations of the H5N1 virus (bird flu) identified. At present none have demonstrated the ability to be transmitted from human to human, though the most recent mutations in Turkey and elsewhere are moving in that direction.
Human contraction of the virus at this time is the result of the consumption of undercooked infected fowl (there are countries that eat a sort of bird sushi) or significant absorption of infected fowl feces. Many SE asian families live with fowl in their homes and/or in their living areas outside.
At some point in time it is possible that the bird flu virus may mutate on its own to become contagious among humans, or more likely, a human will contract a form of Asian Flu (the human variety) and bird flu simultaneously. The two strains of virus will attach and mutate into a form of avian flu that has the contagiousness of Asian Flu.
With avian flu beginning to spread among bird populations across the world, this scenario is not solely limited to humans residing in SE Asia any longer. It could occur in any country where people live closely with fowl.... many South and Central American cultures fall into this category.
Unrestricted emigration in this case could prove catastrophic to the US.
As to other diseases that are coming in through our borders, I suggest you research the strains of TB that we are fighting and a brand new one that will really make your skin crawl (literally as well as figuratively), Morgellons Disease.
One other point, Milford Regional Hospital use to set aside approximately 5-10% for "free" medical assistance. It is now approaching 30% with much of it provided to illegals.
