Just when you thought it was safe to count your money. The Mendon Upton Regional School District and their minions will lob another override at the taxpayers of Mendon on Monday.
Empowered (or intimidated) by Edu-crats, pandering politicians and special interest groups of all ilks’, they will attempt to wear down the voters of Mendon with another of their never ending demands for money.
This is simply the arrogance of a government we created to educate or children. This is not about the money. This override is for bragging rights within the self-anointed circle of “educators” that they shook us down for cash after we said no.
Truth is, schools were better educators 40 years ago than they are now. For example, the SAT tests have been dumbed down twice in the last 15 years to make the numbers look better.
Remember this: Government’s first mission is to protect it’s cash flow and make itself bigger. The Pentagon brought you the $900 toilet seat. Public Education has handed you the “Administration”. We’ll be voting no.

Hey Gardens, your ignorance is showing.
Your view differs from mine so you are ignorant?
We'll be voting yes.
More BS from the king of liers.
what is a "lier"?
I think that is something like a liar. For definition of word see previous thread on this blog. For pertinent and actual information on this override I suggest you go to another blog.
Just start writing the check because it is going to pass! Yeah!
I will also vote no. My vote is based off of the class size argument that I read on another blog. It amazes me how so many people think being taxed more is a good thing.
Optimum class size is relative to the behavioral status of the students. We live in a town with no bad areas that generally spawn children that divert a teachers time from the rest of the class. Many of my college classes had 300 students and there is a correlation there that implies that 30 younger kids can be acceptable in some populations.
My 10th grade son tells me that there aren't enough desks in one of his classrooms; the kids were told they used $ to hire teachers and need the override to but the desks.
I'll bet the desks will show up regardless of how the override vote goes.
Only the basic 101 prerequisite classes in enormous universities have classes over 300 and you probabley skipped those classes and went only for the tests like most of us did. That is not many. Most classes in average sized universities have 10 to 30 students. There is no correlation between socio economic status and classroom behavior. Inner city classes are larger thus increasing the instances of behavior issues. Most inner city kids who are issues do not even go to school most of the time if at all. Rich kids have behavior issues too. They go. The class size issue is simple. The more kids in the class the less attention the kids who need it will get. What amazes me is people being more willing to pay more for one month of cable service than what it would cost them to hire 5 or 6 more teachers for a year. Can't go without seeing American Idol in HD for a month I guess.
Come on people. See it for what it is! The liberal elitist that support MURSD want "Hopkinton" like opportunities, bigger buildings, programs etc. These towns need to get back to basics, and curb the bottom line. Usually these numbers like class size etc. are used to scare and intimidate. Go really look at some of the class sizes, my bet is there are many below the average!
Smarten up, and vote NO. Don't worry, no one will go without in the Kingdom!!
I cancelled cable years back. Couldn't afford it any more.

"There is no correlation between socio economic status and classroom behavior..."
Oh Really! You don't have metal detectors in your schools but they are common in poorer schools.
Your disdain for those less well off than yourself oozes from your keyboard. Did it occur to you that the extra thousand bucks a year might be needed by some of your neighbors to heat their homes? If you want a private education go out and buy it.
The amount of this override is .015% of the total district budget. This isn’t about the money, It’s all about power and control.
HG
What the hell are you talking about this time? "Did it occur to you that the extra thousand bucks a year might be needed by some of your neighbors to heat their homes"
What thousand bucks? Where did you get that number? This over ride will cost the vast majority of taxpayers in this town less than a hundred bucks. Just pulling your "facts" and "numbers" out of your butt as usual I see.
You know HG in these past few weeks you have proven yourself to be one loathsome, dispicable, agenda driven liar. Did you really think the people in this town were stupid enough to buy your act forever? You should just bag this blog now that you have destroyed what little credibility you thought you once had. But you have proven one thing. Time and truth does at length correct error.
Yes, thank you for noticing, it's really only $100 a year.
We are guessing in your minds its ok to extort $100 a year from your neighbors but $1000 is too much.
Why do you insist on telling your neighbors what they should pay for and how much? The point was and is that $100 for them may be like $1000 or more to you. Everyone has a threshold.
Calling people out because they may not adhere to your cultural norms is elitists. Marie Antoinette would be proud.
Was our $1000 tax statement any different than your superintendent Fernandes’ statement that our kids are still reading textbooks that say Jimmy Carter is still president of the United States? Not a lick!
You don’t like it when you get a taste of your own BS.
HG
Ya right the point was something other than what you said. What a crock. I am not the one telling my neighbors how to vote on anything. You are the one doing that and trying to support your position by telling them lies. There is no justification for that no matter how hard you try to spin it.
Yes that is exactly what you are doing and insulting anyone who doesn’t agree with you. American Idol.. Give us a break.
Our position is that the override is unnecessary, your superintendent lied in public and we lied here tongue in cheek to make the point.
Tell Mr. Fernandes to produce the textbook he was referring to and we will eat humble pie.
Until then the only spin here is that voting anything but "NO" will empower the edu-crates to endlessly attempt to pick our pockets with BS tales of gloom and doom.
The book please!

Amen. time to move onto other issues.
Does anyone think part of the problem with education is connected to the many distractions a lot of kids have today? The best education is gained from reading. With all the cell phones, ipods, gameboys, videos, and television, where is the time and inclination to read?
They don't have time with all the activities they have arranged for them.
What about the hours spent instant messaging with friends on computers?
My mother didn't allow TV in the house until I was 16. As a result, I read every day and am better off for the experience. Thanks, Mom.
Parenting can overcome any distractions. TV and video games can be usefull tools if used properly.
It's easy to blame other things. Parenting is the key. Then a good school system.
News Flash......
My kids actually do their homework, make high honors, play sports, AND are on the computer for games. Wake up people, it isn't that difficult to be a parent and make sure everything is done in moderation. I think technology and everything kids do with it will help them in the future. Including being on the computer.
P.S. They actually read too.
What in heaven's name is an edu-CRATE! You are a riot, I vote to make gardens the town jester!
I saw the term High Honors and it reminded me of a pet peeve I have. Ever notice how in many schools Honor Roll's listings that there are twice as many kids making "High Honors" as there are making "Honors"? This hasnt always been the case. Seems "High Honors" should always be a more selective group than "Honors" otherwise how much of a High Honor is it really? (This wasnt aimed towards the person who commented that their child made High Honors. Again just a pet peeve of mine that the persons comment reminded me of.)
My grandchildren also read as well as do all the things mentioned. I'm sure they are important. But they seem to read only books that are assigned in class for book reports and such. I don't see them avidly reading books for the sheer joy of reading.

I think that the High Honors kids go all out. It is based on GPA. I know my kid sets the bar of obtaining high honors each term. He will do anything to obtain it. He is just driven. I think there are many kids who don't put in any effort nor are the encourage to do so. So there are many more kids who do not obtain any kind of honors and that may be why it seems top heavy.
