We blogged about the travesty of the BOS ignoring the DOR report nearly one year ago. You can review what we said here, here and here. You can read the DOR report here.
Basically we said at the time that ignoring the DOR report and hiring another toothless Administrative Assistant would be a waste of money. That was, as it turns out, a major understatement.
The current AA, Michael McCue has become a $63,000 perk laden virtual no-show. In the style of the typical cheesey bureaucrat he is rarely in the office, and does very little when he is there. This is only slightly mitigated by the fact that avoiding Mother Cutler is job one for Mike and everyone else for that matter.
So what has happened under McCue’s “leadership”? The inmates are running the asylum once again. Phones ring and no one answers. Messages left are never returned. Offices are closed at the whim of the employees who work in them. Coffee breaks are boisterous talk orgies that go on for more than an hour a few times a day and are only broken up by lunch. This leaves people who need town hall services wandering about the building too intimidated and embarrassed to ask for assistance.
The selectmen are clueless or complicit in this depending whom your talking about. Lawney Tinio regularly attends these daily hen parties. Any party works for Lawney. David Breen is clueless; he still thinks this is some kind of college class, a workshop that really doesn’t have any real consequences. Note to David: If not you, who? If not now, when? Cutler on the other hand despises the town hall employees and makes their life difficult at every opportunity. This further exacerbates the “us against them” mind set that fuels the current morass.
What a mess. All the while the point man (McCue) is MIA most days except on pay day. It’s your money… do you care?

Do take a few minutes to read the DOR report. I finally did and wish I had done so earlier. It is written in easily understandable, common sense language. The first several pages concern the town administrator issue. Is it too late to do anything about this "mess."
speaking for myself ,I have always found the AA on duty and often he is the only one there on Friday.
I have also never had a problem finding him and he has always addressed my concerns in a appropriate time frame.
The "Mess" can only be straightened out with strong "agenda free" leadership and voters who make themselves aware of what is going on. Do you see any leadership on the horizon?

To anonymous 7:22pm: from your comment I don't believe that you've actually been in town hall on any recent Fridays because there are other offices that are open. So maybe you should keep the bs to yourself.
Re the bs comment: I havn't been in for a month or so but my comment stands as of that time so F%$K off.
Isn't town hall closed on Friday? Who is Bs'ing who now?
AA goes in on Friday mornings because it is more free from distractions for just that reason, no one else is there because it is closed.
Treasurer collector's office is open Friday a.m.
The one I worry about is the Town Clerk. She picks and chooses her own time to be open, often disregarding her own message on the answering machine about hours, because "she's elected and answers to no one."
Guess what, you answer to the people of Mendon.
The Town Clerk's office is open on Friday mornings.
And yes there have been occasional times whan I have left the office earlier then originally posted on my door or my answering machine.
I am entitled to vacation time. I also have used some time that I have accrued when we have an election or a Town Meeting which requires me to put in longer hours.
And yes I do answer to the voters of the Town of Mendon and I do know that very well, they elect me.
Madame Town Clerk, you are never "Entitled" to leave the citizens on Mendon hanging just because you have vacation time.
If you say your going to be there... be there.
Hey Gardens! Off subject but after yesterday's election you must be down right petrified! All hail the new order! Yipeeeeeee!

OK so it's not bs, it's an out and out lie. And don't swear at me because you got caught.
where's the lie? That the town hall isn't actually "closed" on Fridays? The fact remains that Mr. McCue was there on the Fridays that I sought him out. He handled my issue with consideration, competence and expediency. I can only hope your therapist gives you the same service.
and yes every employee is entitled to their time off. You as a tax payer feel that the office should be open. Hire more employees. Everyone in this town complains that they want that small town feeling and don't want to grow, yet they complain that services aren't up to big town's services. Again another case of people wanting it both ways. Margaret keep up the good work. I appreciate it.
To anon November 9 @ 8:49 am: The lie is that if you had actually gone in there like you said, you wouldn't have said that he is often the only one there. You would have known that other offices were open. I am sure that Mr. McCue was more than competant and pleasant to deal with. Maybe you're the one that needs a therapist.
Yes every employee is entitled to time off. I thought that is why you asked for more hours for your Asst. If there is an Assistant Town clerk then why doesn't she work the hours that the Town Clerk is not there, to keep the office open more. That's the part I don't understand. I agree that the Town Clerk does a good job, but the office should be open more with more regular posted hours. What happened to Monday night?
