The Commonwealth of Corruption

First our hearts go out the family of Milena Del Valle. No one should die as a result of greed, graft and indifference to what will turn out to be the crime of the century.
The lesson here is: Ignore what your government is doing in your name at your own peril.
We didn’t think this was a local Mendon story until we realized that we had been thru the tunnel 4 times in the last 3 weeks. One of our children passed under the 3-ton panels less than 20 hours before the collapse and another with our grandson is due in to Boston this weekend. We are sure we are not alone. This is a very local story.
It is worth noting here that our fellow countrymen have invested $8.5 billion of the $14.6 billion cost of this project so far. They resented it when the pork flowed our way in unprecedented amounts and they will relish the opportunity to make Massachusetts pay the price. We are not well liked in most of the country due mainly to our arrogance and politics. The rest of the country can’t understand how we could allow our state government to be controlled by a crime family for decades and how some of us treated them like folk heroes rather than the murderers and thieves that they are. The Big Dig is just an extension of that perverted culture that is Massachusetts’s politics.
If you think that the tragedy in Boston is just a local story, guess again. It is a front page/lead story all over the country and some foreign countries as well. Here is a partial list. We got tired after 18 pages of Google results. A search for "Big Dig Collapse" returned 2,220,000 results. This is not a local story.

This is indeed tragic. The political BS that is occurring now is disgusting. The Governor, Lt. Governor, and AG are politicizing this tragedy to help their various campains. Guess what guys? You were all in charge long enough to share some of the responsibility with the Turnpike Authority.
What is with Mumbles Menino sending out one of his minorty assistants to comfort the family?

Thats right Riff. Menino took many critics aside over the years and scolded them for jepordizing the cash flow. Ditto for Kerry and Kennedy.

Rommney to his credit has been trying to get accountability from the Turnpike Authority for most of his time in office but would never risk outting the theives on Beacon Hill.

In the coming weeks the Feds will lift the lid on the sewer that is business as usual in Massachusetts. It will be must see TV.

The politial arrogance is unbelievable - Amorello, in his press conference yesterday, was trying to convince reporters that his stepping down was more his wife's decision than his - testicles anyone????

What an idiot, this thing stinks and the finger pointing has already started - where are Kennedy, Kerry, Meehan, Delahunt...these loud-mouths seem to always jump at the chance to expose political injustice.

It will be interesting to see how this tragedy is exploited for political gain - now we see Tom Reilly getting tough; granted, he's doing his job and I commend him for going after Amorello.

Once again, Massachusetts is the laughing stock of the nation...

"where are Kennedy, Kerry, Meehan, Delahunt...?"

For the past 20 years every time a pol needed a hack job for a buddy, contributor or slacker relative they went to the Big Dig. Now they are all VERY quiet. They know the congressional hearings are coming and they are trying to cover their Asses.

We get the government we vote for. We had better learn to vote smarter on all levels.

HG has it correct. The political atmosphere in this state plays an indirect yet HUGE roll in this tragedy. The political donations, the patronage, etc. "We get the government we vote for" is spot on. People in this state need to change their voting patterns. Those who are elected serve US, but quite frankly, voters havent done a good job of reminding them that.
