Welcome Back Kevin

It's good to have you back and blogging again. We missed you. It was also good to hear that you got top-notch service from the Fire and Police Departments, you deserve nothing less. We do agree on the fact that public safety is getting the job done in Mendon these days. (That ought to bring out the rif raf)

It is a little more than perplexing that you now think Ken O'Brien is a stand up guy. You have spent the last six months bashing him. Did you and he have one of those little heart to heart talks again? Did he tell you again how important you would be to the development of the Fino land? He does need your mouth going his way on that issue because he knows we are watching his every move. Hi Ken.

That was a bit insensitive, telling Marie Parente that she is so old she should step down. She is in better shape than people half her age. Hell, She is in better shape that you are. For our money Marie can stay. There are a million hack wannabes lined up waiting for a turn at the troth, the later the better.

Cute... The rif raf has arrived!

Let the games begin! We have missed the banter in the comments...

So if i disagree with with you, or I don"t kiss Ernie's fat a$$, I am rif raf.

You can disagree all you want...

You just have to have some FACTS other than the fact that you hate Ernie Horn.

Now go and try to find some.

The FACT is...Kevin, or any other Mendon resident, would have gotten the same respose pre Chiefs Ernie. Ernie fixed the problems he created.

"Ernie fixed the problems he created."

Still no facts! What problems did Horn create??

Chiefs Horn has been in charge a while now. My understanding is he needs more money to run the department. Either I am being fed miss-information or he isn't quite the manager everyone is saying. When you come in and "clean house" instead of using the strengths of the department and working on the weaknesses you incur extra cost.
As for facts, aside from the Police and Fire Departments being able to eat lunch with each other what factual problems did he fix?
Whenever anyone takes over a department in any town or company there is always scuttlebut about what the previous manager didn't do.
The only issue I have is the way it came about. Plus I could live without all of the press releases.

Riff,

If the Fire Department needs more money, lets wait and see how much and for what.

There were apparently some problems that went to the functionality of the Department. Primarily the boys club attitude and lack of respect for authority. (Although it is obvious that the “Authority”, read BOS, had no respect for the rank and file in the department either.)

Horn didn’t clean house the house cleaned itself. Was anybody actually fired? Our recollection is that everyone quit although several should have never been hired in the first place. Chief Johnson was not a good manager. He was and is an excellent instructor and a real nice guy but he never learned the fine art of smacking heads together when necessary. In the end it resulted in the demise of the Fire Department and the Fire Chief’s job.

The press releases come with the territory. We would like to see more press from the other departments. The troika that runs the town is afraid to say anything and the Milford Daily News is a pathetic sleazy little rag with an agenda controlled by radical left wing types and whoever is paying the advertising money. Ditto for WMRC Radio and that burned out hippy Ed Thompson except you substitute right wing there. The Town Crier is pretty objective but they don’t do hard news.

We will be doing a posting on our local media whores in the future. Stay Tuned.

PS: Don’t make comments about Ernie’s butt; he’s a sensitive guy. ;-)

I believe the "cleaning house " was a result of their not being money for both a Deputy Chief and all of the four full-timers. As a result, the two single guys re-signed and were quickly followed by the majority of volunteers.
(Of course here is where someone will talk about "stacking the deck" at a meeting that failed to appropriate the money.) Then since they voted to turn down the money they were chosen as the targets.
I will stay away from commenting on people's anatomy. But I can't help that Darwin is in play here. The size is in direct proportion to the amount of people kissing it.
As far as the Town Crier, They have an article today which defines the five goals of 2005 for the Fire Dept.Even though it appears that some are still being worked on they are mentioned as completed. As I read the article alls I read was more money...more money.

Oh I forgot to sign.

blah, blah, blah... The bottom line is are the Police and Fire Departments doing their jobs effectively? That's the only real issue, whether you like Chief Horn's management style or not. Public opinion that I've observed so far says that they are. Case closed.

Interesting note that any time the police/fire departments are mentioned, comments on this blog and others run rampant, but discuss the school department, and there seems to be no interest. Special interests only??????

Agreed. Its a shame that the postings here seem to be of a petty nature.

There is an elephant in the room and no one cares to comment! You are more than welcome to email or post a request to discuss an issue and we will post it.

Wait... you readily admit that they voted to turn down the money and then somehow they became the victims?!?

You get what you wish for (or vote for) in this life. That meeting was a self inflicted mortal wound for the old guard in the Fire Department. Talk about a bunch of dumb sh$ts. Sheeese

Heaven forbid people tried to do what they could to protect themselves.Had they not done that do you think they would still be there.
You of all people talk about getting what you wish and vote for? Apparently not always.
Blah.Blah the bottom line is in my experience there has been no change noticable. Apparently public opinion is different than my view. So you guys just tell me how to think and feel and I will obey.(I would hate to not be in the cool crowd)

Hanging Gardens said...

Riff,

There is no cool crowd, only a bunch of competing cliques just like high school. The only difference is that now everybody is all grown up and pays accordingly.

Life’s' a bitch.

Well enough of the Safety Dept stuff. We can wait until they want more money(override) to talk about them again.
What we need is someone to throw in their hat against Ken O'Brien. We need to have some choices. So what do you think? Is there a realtor or contractor looking for a lot of grief? Carefull about just giving your vote to the other guy.Thats what got us where we are now.
Marie Parente should retire if that is what she promised regardless of any opinion we have of her.(Richard Moore should follow suit)

Why look for only people who are trying to promote themselves or their businesses? Isn't there anyone out there who's simply fed up with the useless babble of the current BOS who'd like to actually get the town moving on the issues that are looming. Ignoring them for the past two years hasn't made them disappear yet, just makes them more formidable problems.

Kevin is lucky that the fd didn't get lost on the way to his house.
