Their all Bozos on that Bus

As we predicted, it's going to be a great year for the blogs with Sharon Cutler at the helm. We didn't think that she would get so much help from Jay Byer.
--------------------------

The Queen of Condescension
Sharon Cutler was at it again, big time last night. Looking down her snout at her subjects and pontificating on the greatness of her reign. She is truly a legend in her own mind.

Referring to Mendon’s elderly as “the gray hairs” was brilliant.

Sharon we know that you despise the town employees and use every opportunity to stick it to them. Nice move with the payday change. You managed to get half of them to show up last night for your dog and pony show. Good thing for you they left the rotten fruit at home.

The Never Ending Override
When it comes to large seeds, Jay Bayer & Co has them. Undaunted by defeat the school lackeys are planning to throw another override at the voters. What part of "NO" don’t they understand?

Byer's quote" the district is only trying to maintain its current standards." Sure by lowering everyone else’s. Our guess is that poor Jay has been getting a major amount of heat from the spendthrifts in Upton. Remember where you live Jay. If we wanted to pay Upton taxes we would move there. Can a Joint Town Meeting be far behind?

Bring it on Jay but you may want to wear the floral jammies and the hard hat for this one. The natives are truly restless.

HG, Why is it ok for the public safety building to come back for a third time and not ok for the school commitee ??
Would you like to make a friendly bet on it passing ??
Also I wish the Fin Comm would show the same stones it shows to the School commitee to other Depts in this town.

It should not be okay for anyone to come back and ask again.

Eric, The Public Safety Building is a debt exclusion for a capital expense. It will go away in 20 years.

The school override is an operational override and will remain forever and increase by 2 1/2% every year.

Frankly given the prime movers in both causes we have no confidence that the taxpayers will get a good value from either one.

Wasn't it on this blog that Jay Byer stated if it were not approved HE WOULD NOT COME BACK AGAIN? That he would live with the town's decision so as not to pit the two sides against each other? I can no longer have respect for someone who can't keep their word.

Jay Byer stated among other things "I said before, we provided our vision of what the school district should be, and now the voters have spoken. I respect their vote, even if I disagree with it"

I figured it was only a matter of time before I became a target in blogland. It’s much easier to criticize the individual than the issue. I don’t get how I am helping Sharon Cutler, but so what.

Yes, the school committee, that would be a six member board of which I am one member, will request Mendon take another look at an override to fund the schools. I am hearing that voters didn’t understand what we really needed, we were asking for too much, and should only ask for the teachers needed to maintain class size. That will be what is asked for this time around. I don’t agree with the voter’s decision, but I do respect it. Voters in Mendon need to respect the vote in Upton, who I also have to answer to as a member of a regional committee. They are willing to fund their school district, and are now being told by their Mendon counterparts they can’t. Upton residents need to respect the financial issues in Mendon, the need to build a public safety building, and the rising cost of living in Mendon. Then maybe everyone will behave like adults and start working together towards solutions. Or, both towns can start complaining about the problems of being part of a regional district, take their ball and go home, and start the process of splitting the district so each town can pay double what they pay now for a lesser school system. I did say that once our budget is finalized we will not be coming back to ask for more. I could try to explain, that as of now our budget is not finalized because we have half of our district funding us at one level, and the other at a lower level, but that would be just putting a spin on something, and you wouldn’t accept that.

Don’t worry HG, I have my hardhat from the Clough School project, yes the perks of being on school committee never end, so you can take your shots at me, but you will have to get in line behind the FinCom, Mendon BOS, and everyone who lives in Upton. They are convinced I voted against the override, and I bet even you don’t think that!!

" If the voters determine we need to do less, we will, and we won’t be coming back to ask for more. To me, “living within a budget” is just that. ------ Written by Jay Byer 6/1/06 on this blog

Jay, you really have been drinking the water over there in Upton!

Credibility is such a fleeting thing.

So, as a member of a regional committee, when one town say yes, and one town says no, and I asnwer to both, which ones decided we need to do less. I think our obligation is to do the best we can for the district, not just one town. I know I am a Mendon member, but I don't see the harm in asking for a lesser amount. I actually don't drink the water in Upton, have you tasted the water from the bubblers in Nipmuc? I'll take Mendon well water any day. And, who said I was credible? I try to be honest, give you facts, and give you my opinion. You don't have to accept them.

Hanging Gardens said...

Jay, you would have never become a target in blogland if you stuck to what you said.

You're really letting those Upton folks get to you. They want that Joint Town Meeting so bad they can taste it. They know they would prevail in shear numbers.

Don't let that happen Jay.

If Upton drags Mendon to a JTM and raises taxes in this town you know what would happen. Goodbye District and Hello to an expensive open war between the two towns.

You do not want that as a legacy.

HG

We may not agree on the school budget but most of us are with Jay on on our great tasting Mendon well water.

Anonymous said...

Why does anyone have to become a target? Jay, I for one appreciate what you are up against and I believe that you will do what is in the best interest of the children and the town. Don't let these blog bullies get to you.

Anonymous said...

I think Mr. Gardens just wants to pick a fight with Upton so he can have something to bloviate endlessly about. In that respect he is exactly like Dennis Shaheen...Maybe he is Dennis Shaheen??

Jay Byer said...

HG, I went along with, and supported the majority of the committee on coming back for another shot at the override, because I don't see the harm in asking for a lesser amount. I will not support the majority if they decide to go towards a joint town meeting, because I think that's the end of the regional district. One tough year of funding is better than dissolving the regional district. I said this the night of our meeting, to the MDN reporter after the meeting, and to the Globe yesterday. Being one vote of six, it is something I cannot stop if the majority of the committee wanted to go that way. I don't think the committee would support that, but I cannot speak for them, and shouldn't. I will argue against that, but I think you understand how committees work. I don't mind being the target because the school district funding is not about me. If my concern was how I was perceived I wouldn't be on school committee. I will admit I said we would accept the vote, and now we are coming back for another shot, and if that means I went back on my work, I'll accept the heat for that too.

Can I use the same excuse as Bill Parcells? I reserve the right to change my mind!

I am going to refrain from commenting anymore for now and see what others have to say. I'm not trying to avoid you, or public criticism, I have little league games and work, and, well, you get the point.

It is rather rich that HG is making connents about credibility. There is none here and it becomes more obvious every day. Where are those school budget reductions you were sent days ago. Disagree with this blog and the blog becomes disagreeable with you. No truth here just personal attacks and opinion masquerading as fact. This rediculous crap is dividing and destroying this town. It sickens me. Wake up people, the only one manipulating you is this blogmaster. Like the wizard of Oz HG hides behind a curtain so you don't find out their real agenda and plays you all like a violin.

Hanging Gardens said...

We have the highest respect for Jay Byer and the stress of being a member of the school committee not to mention the Chairman.

We are not trying to pick a fight with anyone. On the other hand we are aware that some of the powers that be in Upton are pushing for a JTM. Jay may or may not confirm that.

A JTM would be a disaster with huge ramifications. First, it would lead to the dissolution of the district and cost each town tens of millions of dollars. The legal fight would cost a million or more for each town and to what end? Two halves that don't equal the original whole.

Our point was and is that the district should live with the funding this year and not tempt fate with another try. It stands very little chance of passing and will further enflame both sides.

In addition to the Bozo's who purport to be our selectmen, we have our very own pointy-heads here.

Where were we not credible?

The school budget reductions were published on Riff Raff's and Kevin Rudden's blogs. The same people follow all three so we opted not to publish them.

When have we not told the truth? The answer is, Twice because we had bad information both times. We owned up to the errors and in one case apologized because one was due.

This “ridiculous crap” as you put it is the only thing passing for real information in this community. Do you honestly think that you would have ever heard about the soil contamination from the BOS? Sure you would have after a 7 million dollar project was underway and we HAD to spend the money to clean up the mess. Get Real.

What is “dividing and destroying” this town as you put it, is the imperial nature of our government and the underhanded cronyism that they exhibit. When government becomes oppressive and confiscatory people speak out. Our mentor here is Thomas Paine and Common Sense but then you probably don’t know who that is and common sense seem to have eluded you. Too bad.

We hide behind the same curtain you do, anonymity. Apparently you like it as much as we do.

You are correct. We are trying to manipulate people. We are trying to manipulate the people who spent the money into listening to the people who go out and earn it.

Every post and comment ever written on this blog is still available, all 800+ of them. Go back and try to hang an agenda on us, we dare you. You will find it… Honesty.

If the blog is just ridiculous crap then why are you wasting your time reading it and commenting?

Hey Dale, Er, Hanging garbage, How could you of all people call Sharon Cutler the Queen of condescension when it was you who proclaimed that "this is not a democracy" at town meeting or told library supporters at a Selectman's meeting that it was YOUR meeting. We all know who you are and that you have a very large, rusty axe to grind. I think it is time you came out of the closet.....

Hanging Gardens said...

That is a common misconception. Dale Pleau provided us with valuable information about the Fino fiasco and posted here during that time. We were very grateful because we had no idea of the true nature on that land deal. But in the end he is not one of us. Guess again.

You are probably the same Bozo poster we responded to on this thread. If you feel you have caught us in a lie, out with it! If our facts are wrong, point that out. If you want to call us names, have at it. In the end the people who read this blog will decide who has the credible position.

Have a Great Fourth of July. Many people have died so you can be stupid and have equal access.

oh they aren't allowed to eat now? Interesting. Are you going to a barbeque this weekend? Because I believe that they all have to work. Is it the location, because the Mendon Police were there as well.

Anonymous said...

HG, I sure hope your poll results aren't a true reflection of how many bloggers you have here. If so I think you need to get the word out a little more so more people can become informed.

By the looks of them maybe they should take a break from eating for a while.

Hanging Gardens said...

The first poll we did was visited nearly 500 times but only 64 people chose to vote.

Many people read the blogs like a newspaper but only a small fraction are interactive. For us that is about 5% or 750/15,000.

That was the Police Association clam bake for the seniors, it's something called community policing....and the fire department, police department and Sharon Cutler were all there. As were many of our senior citizens. They love to eat with the guys who'll save their lives.....

Anonymous said...

So let me get this straight, Is the fire Dept. not allowed to go to Deluxe Pizza, or Dunkin Donuts? I am trying to understand the problem here. Please elaborate for us.

Anonymous said...

Thats the problem , they go there to much. They need to go to the gym.

Anonymous said...

don't most of us need to go to the gym? Hey here's an idea, let's put a weight room in the station

Anonymous said...

Since you seem to like them so much lets put the gym in your house that way they can get fit and they can protect you at the same time. Best of all I won't have to pay for it.

Anonymous said...

this thread has been reduced to the absurd. time to move on. if it bothers you that much you should have them all to your house for lunch/dinner every day.

Anonymous said...

This town has been reduced to the absurd.

Anonymous said...

Do you not like the fire dept personel or are you just bitter that thier there and you aren't. Do you get to eat on your job? With all the crap thats going on thats all you can come up with? It sounds to me like you really need to get a life. Maybe you should move on and look for something positive.
